A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EAGLE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT (THE "District ") AND REQUESTING THE
KEEP AVON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ( "AES ") OPEN FOR THE EDUCATION OF THE CHILDREN OF AVON AND
EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO, AND SETTING FORTH DETAILS IN REGARD THERETO
WHEARAS, the Town of Avon (the "Town "), in the County of Eagle and State of Colorado, is a home rule
municipal corporation duly organized and existing under the law of the State of Colorado and the Town Charter
(the "Charter ");
WHEREAS, the members of the Town Council of the Town (the "Council ") have been duly elected and qualified;
WHEARAS, "AES" is known for its excellent academics and achievement and has been nominated for a "Blue
Ribbon Award" for closing the achievement gap and significant growth in its students. The teachers and
administration over the years have been outstanding and dedicated. It would be extremely detrimental for the
District to close one of their best and most unique schools;
WHEREAS, "AES" has a great history in the Town of Avon, and the community considers it to be one of its most
important assets;
WHEREAS, having a public elementary school within the Town of Avon boundaries is important to attracting
young families and is important to our sense of community and a school is one of the most important pieces of
"infrastructure" needed to make a town a community;
WHEREAS, the Town has clearly demonstrated its long -term commitment to the school by its ongoing
participation in projects that have been a benefit to the school including funding the Walking Mountains Science
School programs and sharing facilities at Nottingham Park;
WHEREAS, "AES" is currently occupied by 275 students almost all of whom are able to walk to school, which
creates significant savings in transit costs that would be incurred by the District to bus these students to another
school;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF AVON, COLORADO THAT the
Avon Town Council has a clear expectation that Avon Elementary School will serve this community for decades
to come.
INTRODUCED, PASSED AND ADOPTED at a Regular Meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Avon held this
10th day of January, 2012. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its passa e.
