No. 1983-170 RESOLUTION NO.# 83-17 SERIES OF 1983 A RESOLUTION TO PROCLAIM MAY 8-14, 1983 AS MUNICIPAL CLERK'S WEEK WHEREAS, The Office of Municipal Clerk is the historical mainstay in local government, entrusted with the dual responsibility of preserving the past and using modern technology to access that information for the future; and WHEREAS, The Municipal Clerk's role is multifaceted, . accomplishing several key responsibilities which directly contribute to the steadfast qualities of local government, and WHEREAS, The Municipal Clerk serves as a conscientious and progressive public servant providing a harmonious connection between the local governing body and the citizenry, and WHEREAS, The Municipal Clerk's reflective manner towards professional development through continued education participation is a vital advancement in today's world, and WHEREAS, It is therefore appropriate to appraise the professional attributes and capabilities of the Municipal Clerk and recognize their important purpose and function in our everchanging society. NOW, THEREFORE I, Allan R. Nottingham, Mayor, do hereby proclaim May 8-14, 1983, to be Municipal Clerk's Week. In recognition of the Municipal Clerk's ability to appropriately respond to the changes of today with forethought for the future of this office and its public service to the local citizen. Doyle, Town Clerk RE: Municipal Clerk's Week The Annual observance of Municipal Clerk's Week, May 8-14, 1983 will emphasize the developing use of high technology by City and Town Clerks to perform the multi-responsibilities of their office. This week is sponsored by the International Institutue of Municipal Clerks(IIMC). This week will inform the general public of the key role that its members have in government, the services they provide to the citizens and the efficient and economical manner in which these services are carried out. The IIMC is the association of 6,500 county, city, village, town and township clerks located in every state and countries. The municipal Clerk is the elected or appointed official who is responsible for the preservation of official municipal documents and records and the recording of the Council or commission minutes. In addition to that, the clerk oversees voter registration and the entire election process, including national as well as local elections. The clerk also serves as the public contact for information about municipal services and community activities. Municipal Clerk's Week will provide the media to correct any miscon- ception of the office and will be used as a means to publicize our intention to continue the smooth delivery of municipal services in these times of economic limitation. I recommend that the Mayor and the Council recognize and proclaim the week of May 8-14, 1983, to be, Municipal Clerk's Week.
