TC Res. No. 1981-05• 0 RESOLUTION NO -#81-5 SERIES OF 1981 A RESOLUTION STATING THE PROCLAMATION OF "COLORADO VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION WEEK" FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 27, THROUGH MAY 3, 1981. WHEREAS, we are a Nation of people who thrive on helping others, as well as ourselves, to a better life; and WHEREAS, volunteerism has always been an essential part of the spirit and traditions of this Country, so that today one out of every five Americans is making a gift of time and talent to some kind of volunteer service - helping others or working for a cause - and this great grass roots movement is growing; and WHEREAS, volunteerism directly reflects the democratic principles of this Nation in that everyone, regardless of circumstances or station, or factors of race, age, sex, color or creed can volunteer and, thus reap the rich rewards that come from doing for others as well as from improving one's own skills and widening one's horizons; and WHEREAS, volunteerism is increasingly recognized as a central partner with government and industry in doing the work of the Nation; and WHEREAS, the State has established the Office of Voluntary Citizen Participation in order to encourage and coordinate volunteer efforts throughout the State; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that a period of time be set aside each year to honor and to thank the dedicated citizens of Colorado who give so freely of their valuable time, energy and abilities as volunteers; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF AVON, COLORADO, THAT: I, Angelo V. Alpi, Mayor of the Town of Avon, Colorado, do hereby proclaim the week of April 27th through May 3rd, 1981, as "Volunteer Recognition Week" in the Town and Community of Avon, and urge all citizens to participate in the spirit of committing a portion of their time, no matter how little, to the needs of our Community, by volunteering time.
