TC Minutes 04-01-19806 0 MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE TOWN OF AVON, COUNCILMEMBERS HELD APRIL 1, 1980 - 7:30 P.M. The Special Meeting of the Town Councilmembers of the Town of Avon, Colorado was held in the Town Office, second floor, Benchmark Shopping Center, Avon, Colorado. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Alpi at 7:50 p.m. A roll call was taken with all Councilmembers in attendance with the exception of Allan Nottingham and Steve Erickson. Also present were members of URS. As the first and only order of business, Mayor Alpi announced that URS would report on their concept of the mall,(Avon Center Mall), and related subjects. They covered two subjects 1) the rail crossing issue and how it is progressing and the mall. Steve Holt of URS Company and Vice President principal in charge of the work in Avon. He reported on the up coming presentation of the appearance of the PUC on the rail crossing for the extension of Beaver Creek Blvd. crossing. The implication of the future of traffic movements close to the year 2000, will be in the vicinity, without the rail crossing, about 15,000 cars a day using the Avon Road. Mr. Wells stated and made it aware to Mr. Holt that the f irestation is going to have a $400,000 expansion beginning this month and will house the only ladder truck for Beaver Creek, Eagle Vail and Avon. The firestation is on the North side and has a substanial development on the South side and does interfere with response time. Mr. Holt stated that it is very important about the Town thinking of some rolling stock options such as, car pooling, charters, expresses. He also stated it would not be feasible to count on any % of monies coming from the railroad or State funding. It was stated that it would be helpful for a showing from the people of the community to participate and speak at the hearing, to express the daily concerns in the community. After more disuccion the Mayor thanked Mr. Holt for reporting. It was stated that the drainage plan is a critical issue. Art Swords presented to the Council two conceptual drawing of logos for the Town. After a brief break Art Swords and Mike Husey presented slides of various malls in the region to learn more of the characters of them. They took slides of Boulder Mall, Arvada Mall, Vail, Lionshead, Aspen Mall, Marina Square Shopping Center, Stoneybrook Mall, and divided them into categories, general design, lighting, graphics, street furniture, water features, bridges, traffic control, paving, drainage details, maintenance, openings through buildings, specialty structures. After discussion the Mayor thanked Mr. Swords for reporting. There being no further business, Jim Wells moved that the Council adjourn and Dick Casserley seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned by Mayor Alpi at 1i:30 p.m.
