TC Resolution 18-19 Supporting Ballot Issue 1A Regarding Mill Levy ExtensionTOWN OF AVON RESOLUTION 18-19 SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF EAGLE COUNTY BALLOT ISSUE 1A REGARDING VOTER AUTHORIZATION TO EXTEND THE MILL LEVY FOR THE EAGLE COUNTY OPEN SPACE PROGRAM WHEREAS, Issue IA was referred unanimously by the Eagle County Commissioners to allow the County to extend for another 15 years the voter -approved Open Space tax of 1.5 mills beyond its termination in 2025. WHEREAS, Issue I will continue the Eagle County Open Space program for an additional 15 years to ensure the protection of the County's diverse wildlife and preservation of the County's natural wonders and river corridors, without raising taxes. WHEREAS, Issue I will allow Eagle County to plan for the future by ensuring that the County has the resources needed to maintain existing properties while also moving ahead on future projects. WHEREAS, passage of Issue IA will allow the Open Space Advisory Committee and its community partners to continue their work to add several more properties to the already diverse Open Space portfolio. WHEREAS, the Eagle County Open Space program preserves critical lands for wildlife by acquiring and conserving river and stream corridors to maintain riparian habitat as well as providing migration corridors for several species. WHEREAS, the Eagle County Open Space program works to acquire properties to preserve ranching heritage through conservation easements and to provide access to adjacent federal lands. WHEREAS, the Eagle County Open Space mill levy helps to enhance a broad range of outdoor recreational opportunities — including a network of trails, boat ramps, and many other amenities as well as supporting important conservation initiatives and wildlife preservation. NOW, THEREFORE, for the preservation of Eagle County's natural wonders, protection of our wildlife and enhancement of our quality of life now and for future generations, the Avon Town Council has resolved to support the Yes for Open Space campaign for Issue I on the November 6, 2018 ballot.
