Public Comment 05-08-2018 Motorized Winter Access on USFSAs a full time resident and property owner at 2640A Beartrap Rd inn Wildridge, I want to express my thoughts that you not allow any further access in the Wildridge neighborhood. This is a very pleasant, quiet residential area that has a high number of full time residents with young kids. Please do not allow access to snowmobiles or other vehicles that will bring loud noise, pollution and unsafe conditions. There are plenty of other areas in our valley that don't have a large amount of family owned homes from which you may chose. My particular concern is unsafe condition and noise. Wildridge is an important residential area that should be kept quiet and safe. We did not choose to live in Wildridge to have it turn into a noisy, unsafe area. I feel the town should not restrict forest access in winter or summer. Our citizens should be able to use the roads only to the extent to get to the trailheads at times compliant with the forest service regulations. I do not access the forest in winter but do in summer and forest access is one of the assets Wildridge has. This is one reason many of us live in Wildridge. My wife and kids agree with me on this as we all ride the forest trails. I hope you can relay this information to the council. I live at 4730 Wildridge Road East, Unit B adjacent to the road. Allowing more access to this habitat will have significant impacts to wildlife. The Forest Service told us: "The area this road travels through is managed for wildlife winter habitat. Through the analysis for the travel plan it was decided that the June -Berry 717 would be the open route through this winter range habitat up to the 734 and 700 roads. Winter motorized use disperses and causes mortality to the elk and deer populations during the hard winter seasons. These south facing slopes are very important habitat to these herds during winter months. By prohibiting winter motorized vehicles we allow the deer and elk areas to forage, rest, and the ability to not move around a lot being disturbed by winter motorized vehicles. The more the animals are moved around in the winter months, the more calories they use up that could be used to just stay warm. Colorado Parks and Wildlife supported this decision." Needless to say the noise pollution from the motorized activity would be unbearable. One of the many beautiful things about living in Wildridge is how quiet it is. That would be gone. It seems odd that a community, the economy of which is based upon winter sports activity, would want to encourage an activity which burns fossil fuels, a principal cause of climate change. It is difficult to imagine there is a significant economic benefit to the Town from opening USFS 779. The Town should consider the traffic impacts to the Wildridge community of expanded recreational use. If additional recreational activities are to be added the Town should add more calming features (the 25mph limit in upper Wildridge is rarely observed) as well as limits on on -street parking by persons who are not Wildridge residents or their guests. I also want to point out that the Wildridge Protective Covenants say: 23. Recreation Off -Road Vehicles: No person or group of persons shall operate a snowmobile, skimobile, skidoo, snocat or other similar type of snow vehicle or motorcycle, trail bike, ATV or similar motorized vehicle or any aircraft upon any public street, way, sidewalk Tract, lot or any land within the Subdivision except for emergency or authorized maintenance purposes. Thank you in advance for your consideration of my opposition to winter motorized access on USFS 779 Jan Wisor
