Design Review Considerations According to the Town of Avon's Sign Code, Section 15.28.070 Design Review Criteria, the Planning & Zoning Commission shall consider the following items in reviewing proposed designs: 1. The suitability of the improvement, including materials with which the sign is to be constructed and the site upon it is to be located. N/A 2. The nature of adjacent and neighboring improvements. Window signage is limited throughout the Town and in this particular building. 3. The quality of the materials to be utilized in any proposed improvement. N/A 4. The visual impact of any proposed improvement, as viewed from any adjacent or neighboring property. The repetitious window signs would clutter the store fronts' appearance. 5. The objective that no improvement will be so similar or dissimilar to other signs in the vicinity that values, monetary or aesthetic, will be impaired. The repetitious nature of the proposed window signage would impair the aesthetic appearance of the building's store frontages. Whether the type, height, size, and/or quality of signs generally complies with the sign code, and are appropriate for the project. The Sign Code states that window signage shall not exceed 25% of the exterior window area. Individually, the proposed window signage does not appear to exceed this limit. However, the Sign Code further guides that wording on window signs should not be repetitious of other signs in the immediate vicinity. Thus, the repetitious nature of signage is inappropriate for the project. 7. Whether the sign is primarily oriented to vehicular or pedestrian traffic, and whether the sign is appropriate for the determined orientation N/A Staff Recommendation Staff recommends denial of the proposed window signage due to its conflict with the Sign Code's discouragement of repetitious window signage. Recommended Motion Deny the proposed window signage as presented with the application dated "Received" May 14, 1997 based upon the finding that the repetitious nature of the proposed signage conflicts with the guidelines of the Town of Avon's Sign Code.
