RE: Municipal Clerk's Week
The Annual observance of Municipal Clerk's Week, May 8-14, 1983 will
emphasize the developing use of high technology by City and Town Clerks to
perform the multi-responsibilities of their office. This week is
sponsored by the International Institutue of Municipal Clerks(IIMC).
This week will inform the general public of the key role that its members
have in government, the services they provide to the citizens and the
efficient and economical manner in which these services are carried
out.
The IIMC is the association of 6,500 county, city, village, town and
township clerks located in every state and countries. The municipal
Clerk is the elected or appointed official who is responsible for the
preservation of official municipal documents and records and the
recording of the Council or commission minutes. In addition to that, the
clerk oversees voter registration and the entire election process,
including national as well as local elections. The clerk also serves
as the public contact for information about municipal services and
community activities.
Municipal Clerk's Week will provide the media to correct any miscon-
ception of the office and will be used as a means to publicize our
intention to continue the smooth delivery of municipal services in these
times of economic limitation.
I recommend that the Mayor and the Council recognize and proclaim the
week of May 8-14, 1983, to be, Municipal Clerk's Week.
