Re: Visitor Information Potential Site
SUMMARY: Staff has been reviewing potential sites for some type of a Visitor/Tourist
Information Center for the past several years; we have not been very successful. In
several weeks you will be hearing a budget request from the new Chamber/VVTCB
group, we thought this might be a good time to review the Visitor Information question
again.
POTENTIAL SITES:
Pizza Hut Site - We received a quote of two million dollars for the east parking
lot at Pizza Hut, we decided not to pursue that site. Staff then negotiated with the
Pizza Hut management to place a temporary site on the west parking lot, the
owners of the property got involved and this idea was halted.
2. Oscar Tang Site - This has been a very slow process but rumor has it that there
may be a submittal in the next several months for development. Staff believes
that this good still be a very good site.
3. Swift Gulch Site - This site has excellent potential but also a potentially high
development cost. Norm has prepared a very rough guestimate on potential costs
for the site and they are attached for your review.
4. Village at Avon - This could potentially be somewhere near the new full diamond
interchange that should start construction next year. Beth Slifer has contacted Bill
Post concerning this potential site. Until the next area is platted, it will be hard
for Mr. Post to give an answer.
RECOMMENDATION: There are still many questions to be answered considering a
site, there are also still many questions concerning management of the site to be
answered. My sincere recommendation is to evaluate the merger of the
VVTCB/Chamber group over the next year and decide if they are the group we should be
working with to provide visitor information. If the answer to this question is "yes", then
we also need to work with them as a funding partner to provide this service.

Capital Improvements Budget - 2002
Summary: A copy of a proposed 2002 CIP Budget Calendar is
attached along with copies of a 2001 CIP Budget Capital Projects/Wish List Summary, a
Capital Projects Status Report and a corrected Capital Projects Fund 5-Year Plan. A
revised Capital Projects Fund 5-Year Plan is also attached. The Revised Plan reflects the
addition of $300,000 to 2001 Expenses and moving the construction time frame for
Nottingham Road (I-70 to Buck Creek) from 2003 to 2004. This change was necessary
with the additional $300,000 expense in order to maintain a positive ending fund balance
throughout the period.
We will be prepared to present a recommended process and schedule for adoption of this
year's Capital Improvement Budget for your consideration at Tuesdays work session.
