MINUTES OF PLANNING AND ZUNING COMMISSION MEETING
DECEMBER 1, 1987
the regular meeting of the Avon Planning and Zoning
Commission was held on December 1, 1987, at 7:35 PM in ttie
Town Council Chambers of the lawn of Avon Municipal Complex,
400 Benchmark Road, Avon, Colorado. the meeting was called
to order by Chairwoman Pat Cully.
Members Present: Charlie Uersbach, Frank Dall, Buz Reynolds,
Mark Doitat dsou, Pat Curly and Mike Blair

Sign Program Amendment Request - Design Review
Wright stated that the owners of Benchmark Plaza Building are
requesting an amendment to ttie Comprehensive Sign Standards
that were approved by the Town in December, 1982. Tlie
amendment deals with allowing the major tenant in the
building to have additional signage mounted on the northwest
and southwest portion of ttte building facing Avon Road. (tie
applicant has submitted a rendering showing the proposed
signage, a letter outlining the request, and a draft of ttie
amended sign standards for the project. Wright stated that
Linda Rogers from the Benchmark Companies was present to make
her presentation and Wright passed around the rendering for
the Commission to study.
Linda Rogers, applicant and representative of Benchmark
Companies stated that Avon National Bank has requested that
they be allowed to mount two signs on the west end of the
building because they have entered into a lease with
Benchmark to rent the entire front end of the building.
Discussion on the placement of the signs, the staff concerns
regarding the current Avon National Bank signs and current
sign code, followed. Rogers stated that the signage would be
removed from the I. D. signs at the northeast and northwest
ends of the building. Discussion followed ori the type o+
letters to be used.
Cuny asked about the status of the "Benchmark Companies" sign
located across Avon Road from the project. Discussion
followed regarding the removal of the sign.
Rogers stated that the sign could come down if the town so
desired.
Blair moved to approve the request as presented.
Donaldson seconded.

Reynolds stated that he objected to the existing sign being
left along with having the sign over the entrance in addition
to the two new signs.
rhe motion passed unanimously.
Wood stated that what was needed was a simple amendment to
their existing sign program. Wood stated that the last
sentence should read "Ihe maximum area of signage mounted on
the redwood portion of the building on the west end shall be
60 square feet.
Blair amended his motion to state that the Comprehensive Sign
Program for the Benchmark Plaza building would include that
three signs, as requested by the applicant be approved with
the amendment to the last sentence of paragraph one to limit
it to the redwood area on the west end of the building and
the area shall be 6v square feet.
Donaldson seconded the amended motion.
Reynolds stated his objection stands and Cuny voiced the same
objection to four signs for one tenant.
The motion passed unanimously.
Wood stated that Rogers would give a letter stating that
there was no objection to taking down the "Benchmark
Companies" sign.
Reading and Approval of P & Z Minutes of November 17,1987,
Regular Meeting
Donaldson moved to approve the minutes of the November 17,
1987, regular meeting as submitted.
Gersbach seconded.
Passed unanimously.
Other Business
There being no other business to discuss, Doll moved to
adjourn.
Reynolds seconded.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:35 PM.
