Introduction
The applicant wishes to erect a single -sided freestanding entry sign. It will be illuminated by
stem mounted landscape bullet light fixtures featuring 18" shields and green finish. The sign
would be mounted on five (5) 6" x 6" posts totaling a height of T- 2" and a width of 48". They
would be painted to match the cream colored stucco of the church. The colors of the sign itself
consist of silver lettering, a gold border and a maroon background (please see attached cut -
sheets). Two location are proposed for the sign:
Option "A": Within the access easement in front of the newly planted landscaping.
Option `B": On the southeast corner of the property bordering the parking lot.
Design Review Considerations
According to the Town of Avon's Sign Code, Section 15.28.070 Design Review Criteria, the
Planning & Zoning Commission shall consider the following items in reviewing proposed
designs:
1. The suitability of the improvement, including materials with which the sign is to be constructed
and the site upon it is to be located.
The colors for both the sign and the support posts appear suitable. The location proposed by
Option "A" would appear to be the more suitable location. Its lower elevation will more
effectively communicate the entrance location to vehicles approaching the church. It would
also appear to be less obtrusive to the general streetscape compared to the Option `B"
location.
2. The nature of adjacent and neighboring improvements.
A similar sign exist for the neighboring condominium complex that shares the same access
easement. Thus, there is a precedent for the Option "A" location.
3. The quality of the materials to be utilized in any proposed improvement.

4. The visual impact of any proposed improvement, as viewed from any adjacent or neighboring
property.
See consideration #1.
5. The objective that no improvement will be so similar or dissimilar to other signs in the vicinity
that values, monetary or aesthetic, will be impaired.
The proposed sign should not be so similar or dissimilar to other signs in the vicinity to
negatively affect their monetary or aesthetic values.
6. Whether the type, height, size, and/or quality of signs generally complies with the sign code,
and are appropriate for the project.
The proposed sign complies with the type, height, size and quality requirements of the sign
code and appears suitable for the project.
7. Whether the sign is primarily oriented to vehicular or pedestrian traffic, and whether the sign
is appropriate for the determined orientation
The sign is primarily oriented to vehicular traffic and does appear appropriate for that
determined orientation.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of the proposed freestanding entry sign in the Option "A" location as
presented.
